Media Preparation work
Media
Preparation work
The work in
media that we had been asked to produce was a front cover of a magazine and the
magazine could be anything of your choice and any genre and for my magazine I
had chosen to do a music magazine and the genre of music I chose was K-pop and
on my magazine I included a variety of things like an interview with a famous
kpop group, other musician well known in the kpop industry, free CD and much
more.
This meets
the codes and conventions of my genre of magazine and the reason this is, is
because it is made to appeal to my target audience and my target audience is
mostly girls (but can be for anyone boy or girl and can also be for anyone not
matter the age as well) around the age of 16-18 who are either university
students college/6 form students who either like to socialise , like to read
magazine, use social networking and live in the city and when it comes to what
the magazine is about it is mostly about the latest news on Kpop so I won’t be
using slang words or celebrity gossip news this is to make it feel like it has
a more professional feel and the price for the magazine will be about 1-2
pound. This is because a while back we did a magazine survey and went around
asking people about our magazine and on the survey I had a bunch of questions
and most of my question were open questions however I did have some closed
questions and some examples of the questions ask relates to the colour of the
magazine, the text, pictures, the things included in the magazine and etc.
On My double page spread I have made it about an
interview on a world famous Kpop band called Girls generation and to make this
I have to do research on what other Kpop magazines did when making there double
page spread and so once I found out what they did and how the presented it I
also tried to do the same and follow suit in there style of layout and I also
used the questionnaire as a guild line to understand what font I needed what
the double page spread was going to be about and how it was also going to appeal
to the target audience and I didn’t want
my magazine to be using only one font so for my headline I used a different
font from the same website it was called Ij Studio and this was because it was
the second best choice that was really like on the questionnaire and it’s not
only that I also used the next best color for the font and this was pink and
this turned out really good because the pink stands out on the page so you know
that this is the page that has the interview on.
Then when
looking at the survey feedback it told me that I should use either purple or
pink and the text should fancy and have some kind of music look to it and the
picture on the front page should be a close up picture and then the other stuff
which makes it look like an official magazine and this had influenced my layout
a lot because when I was first designing it I had pictured a guy or girl
standing on the front page in a body shot holding a guitar with different text
and then the name of the artist in a slanted line going across with the
background in like a dark blue or purple
colour and the magazine headline on the top of the page however most of this
changed later on.
Then moving
on from and layout of the magazine and the double page spread to the focus
group when in the focus group I was paired with Daniel Williamson and this
helped me and my development in work because when looking at my work and
wondering what I could do to improve it Danny told me to get first hand
pictures for my magazine and for my double page spread and then told me that it
was good for a magazine cover and that he thinks if any Kpop person seen the
magazine then they would be able to recognise the magazine and so then I used
that and changed my work to look good and kind of look like what I set it out
to be.
My analyse
had told me that the genre of kpop when it comes to magazines likes to keep it
simple but just enough to attract readers for example when looking at the
magazine front covers they like to keep the image of the kpop band or musician
at either a close up or a body shot and also when looking at the magazine they
like to include other Kpop artist on the side to try and intrigue readers more to buy the magazine and then they also like to
make the image of the person on the front on of two things depending on gender
if it’s a girl then they will try to make her look cool sexy or beautiful and
when it comes to the guys it the same except instead of sexy or beautiful they
use mysterious and undesirable to most
readers. This influenced my decision because kpop magazine are simple and
effective so I have tried to make mine the same by using a lot of the same
codes and conventions an example of this would be making the image of the
person who is going to be on my front page look cool or mysterious it’s not
only the image I have also used a font which is simple to most Kpop magazines
and that font was from a website called font space and the font was called
odishi.
In my
research of institutions I had research a lot of publishers and one that caught
my eye was called billboard magazine and the reason this is because when
looking at Billboard they maintain
several internationally recognized record Chart,
which track the most popular songs and albums across several categories on a
weekly basis. Its primary charts are the Billboard hot
100 and the Billboard 200, respectively, ranking the top songs
and albums regardless of genre and have also sold around 16,327 copies so I
would say they are the best choice in dealing with 16-18 year olds and as well my
genre of Kpop fits the Bill because they publish around the world and not only
that they also release weekly magazines. And so when looking at my codes and
conventions it fits the corporate image because the image of bill board is to
tell you about the latest new music and what’s good and so mine fits because it
also gives insight of the newest and best music however it may not be around
the world but it’s doesn’t give insight on the best new music in Korea so it
still does fit their corporate image just not they whole image.
My magazine represents the people who published it
because just like in their types of magazines they like to keep the magazine
short and simple with not that much distractions around because the people buy
it already know, however there is still enough information for people who don’t
know. And the person on the front of my page does have the same representation
as most of the other kpop magazines with ethnicity being Asian, gender male and
the male being a cool looking pose, the age not fitting but I have made it out
to look like the male is starting his career and yes my magazine does confirm
the stereo types of kpop magazines and when it comes to the star and the image
of him the mis sen scen has been used to make him look cool the camera angle is
him looking away on a close up , the dress was just casual like he is going out
with his friends.
Finally when looking at my work and comparing with the
work of theorist I can say that my work doesn’t follow the same codes and
conventions as they do an example of this would be the hyper dermic needle
method like in newspapers were all the information if feed to you my magazine
goes against that by including social media links and also website links on my
magazine front cover.

Double Page spread Final (written)
Double Page spread Final
In my double page spread I was making mine about music and to
be more specific it was about Korean pop (Kpop) and this was also focused on a
girl group who is well known in Korean and well known to most Kpop fans and the
group is called Girls Generation, SNSD, GG and also has many more. So in my double
page spread the first draft had two pages and both of these pages have been
taken from the internet and in my final double page spread I will use my own photos
of some girls doing similar poses or things as the girls or get a picture of
something girly to still make the picture relevant to what I am talking about. In
my research of a magazine I found that every magazine does have a page number
in the bottom corners and with the information I had gain I also did the same
in my double page spread to make it as close as possible
I also changed my text because I had used some text that was
already been used form a different article and also I didn’t like the text font
I was using because it didn’t seem like it fit the type of magazine genre and
not only that I added more text in the bottom corner to tell the target audience
about the interview and how there is a website for more information if they
were really intrigued about the interview. I also used the logo for Girl
Generation in my page because most double page spreads on Kpop magazines have
the logo of the band they are interviewing (if they have a logo) and the
colours for all my text and stuff were also chosen to fit the double page
spread and kind of match it so it looks more professional.
